Our Canvas site will allow you to do three main things:

1. Check the status of your Essays and Proficiency Demos.
2. Check the status of your In- and Out-of-Class Tasks.
3. Provide a convenient place to upload Essays to Turnitin.

In the future, our Canvas site may include announcements
and files, but, for now, the classroom and this site will be
the place for those.

Canvas is not keeping track of class attendance, but it's
important to note that we're improvising and using the
convenient features of that category to keep track of the
status of your Tasks (not your attendance). Canvas was
primarily designed to report grades in terms of points, so
if we're not using points we're going to have to be a bit
creative in the way we use Canvas (like an artist).

Here's what you’ll find on our Canvas site:

Under “Assignments”:

  • A spot to upload essays to Turnitin, which validates orginality.

Under "Grades":

  • A check by an Essay or Proficiency Demo means passing.
  • An "x" by an Essay means not yet passing or missing.
  • An "x" by a Proficiency Demo means not passing or missing.

Under "Attendance":

  • "Present" means the Task tied to that date is complete.
  • "Absent" means the Task tied to that date is missing/incomplete.
  • "Late" means the Task was submitted one class late for half credit.

We're improvising with the attendance category--which is not recording attendance--because it offers an easy way to record, access, and view your running total of all Tasks. The wording may be off, but now you know how to interpret it.
